BACKGROUND TO THE SHOW
The illusion created by the painter: depth, scale, dynamism, excitement, intrigue. It’s all just paint.
Paint - the residue left behind, representing the artist’s interaction with the art. The world is changing. In a world of digital, AI, NFT - we will become more engaged with this medium that records human creation.
One characteristic of my painting process is that I like to let the behaviour of the paint dictate to some degree…like a passive state of acceptance of what feels naturally manifested.
The Taoists would call it the Tao. This could be described as embracing the chaos to then be ordered and refined. The ‘wu wei’ refers to effortless action.
In this exhibition, I have focused on this chaotic part of the process, seeing each piece as a collaboration between myself and the paint. For these paintings I strive to give centre stage to my co-collaborator.
