ABOUT 'TEXTURE'

Texture is chaos.

Nature is chaos.

Philosopher Terence McKenna describes chaos as, "The mother of all progress and creativity - the wind that blows the ship of paradigm shifts."

This year I released a new book, 'Atmospheric Abstraction' documenting the last decade of work.  I now look to chaos to fuel a paradigm shift. With my new body of work I have been thinking about tide and how water moulds the landscape. The tide is the predictable order of retreating and advancing chaos, both creating and destroying texture.

In literature, adding texture means fleshing out the vague with something more specific, adding depth and layers. This is what I do with semi-abstraction. A layered process of embellishment and refinement. This latest show of work becomes a visual and philosophical meditation on texture.
